The Pensions Regulator was established by the Pensions Act 2004 and supervises a range of legal requirements to protect people’s occupational pensions. Its responsibilities also extend to personal and stakeholder pensions. However, it does not deal with queries about individuals' pension benefits. The Pensions Advisory Service (see below) provides free information and advice on all types of pensions and should be the first port of call for individual scheme members.

The Pensions Advisory Service is an independent non-profit organisation with local pensions advisers which seeks to help any member of the public who has a problem, complaint or dispute with their occupational or private pension arrangement.

The Pensions Ombudsman investigates and decides complaints and disputes about the way that pension schemes are run. He is completely independent and acts as an impartial adjudicator.
